Schedule
Make-a-Mend Bookmark with ENTRE
Participants will use fabric scraps and found materials to create a personal bookmark using traditional mending techniques such as sashiko and simple stitches (running stitch, blanket stitch, and more). The workshop invites meditative reflection alongside the learning of practical, hands-on skills. Participants will be encouraged to share a moment when they helped bring something together—whether people, family, ideas, or food. This program marks the inaugural activation by ENTRE, a QTBIPOC craft collective.
Kaleidocycle: A Never-Ending Zine with Alex B. Kostiw
Break away from linear storytelling with a kaleidocycle zine—a format that turns continuously, creating a never-ending narrative. In this hands-on workshop, teaching artist Alex Kostiw will introduce participants to circular storytelling and the ways artist zines weave together content, form, and interaction to create a unique reading experience. Participants will imagine a short story about time, transformation, or cycles of change, then translate it into a multi-page kaleidocycle zine that can be folded and rotated endlessly.
History Collage Making with Black Miami-Dade
A collage workshop led by community historian and Black Miami-Dade founder Nadege Green, using archival images and documents. Participants will learn about the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the 1959 trainings in Overtown that prepared activists to desegregate lunch counters in Miami and across the South. Participants will create and take home an 8 × 11 collage inspired by this history.
Dear Future: with Everything Speaks to Me
“Dear Future:” is a speculative microfiction postcard workshop about world-making and future-oriented remembering that inspires reflection on human efficacy in evolving natural and digital landscapes. Engage in the playful thinking and independent creativity of zine making to share memories from Miami in 2075.
How to Make a Pana Zine with Pana MIA x Miami Poetry Club
Pana MIA x Miami Poetry Club present the second edition of a collective zine-making activation, part of an ongoing year-long project that asks South Floridians one question: What is the South Florida of your wildest dreams? Participants will create their own zine page to be included in a collective publication at the end of the year. This workshop invites a shared dream-making process, using collage, color, text, and conversation to imagine a future South Florida—brought together with tape, glue, and ideas.
Michele Oka Doner’s “An Immersive World” zine release with Bridge Initiative
Stop by the Bridge Initiative table to explore "An Immersive World", a new zine by Michele Oka Doner, a Miami legend and cultural treasure. Based on her Alaska excursion, and created in conjunction with the upcoming documentary “Hello Whale”, the publication offers an intimate reflection on her experience and enduring connection to the natural world.
